Victoria Chi Lin

Biography

Victoria Chi Lin is a New York–based soprano specializing in choral and art song repertoire from early music to contemporary works. She is active with the Oratorio Society of New York and has appeared at Carnegie Hall under conductors including Kent Tritle and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, as well as at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.

Previously based in the San Francisco Bay Area, she has sung as both a soloist and chorister with ensembles including San Francisco Bach Choir, The Choral Project, Stanford Memorial Church Choir, and Symphony San Jose Chorale.

Lin studies voice with Daniel Shigo and previously studied with Kathryne Jennings and Kristen Ruiz. She has participated in vocal masterclasses with Jonathan Beyer, Judith Forst, Rhoslyn Jones, and the Takács Quartet. In addition, she has studied conducting with David Milnes and Marika Kuzma. A trained violinist, she has participated in orchestral masterclasses under conductors including Gustavo Dudamel, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Vance George. Her conducting and instrumental background informs her approach to ensemble performance and musical interpretation.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Music with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, where she received the Bernece B. Lyon Memorial Prize for music performance and Distinction in General Scholarship. She continues her musical education through Juilliard Extension.

Philosophy

It is my belief that music enriches our lives and the lives of those in the communities around us—the arts are a critical part of engaging in dialogue about and experiencing meaning in the world. I am passionate about pedagogy, researching teaching practices and tailoring my approach to each individual. My work seeks to support holistic development, integrating body, mind, and artistic awareness.

Lessons

I offer private and group music lessons for beginning and intermediate students, in-person in Manhattan and online via Google Meet. Lessons are tailored to individual needs and may include the following areas:

  • Musicianship: Pitch, interval, and triad recognition; intonation and rhythmic accuracy; sight-reading, and basic keyboard skills.

  • Voice: Vocal technique and expression, informed by bel canto pedagogy and adaptable to classical, musical theatre, and contemporary styles.
